WHY SENSORY PODS?
Sensory pods, or rooms, have been around for more than 50 years, but because of the increasing prevalence and awareness of autism and other neurological challenges in recent years, they have taken on a new priority and become a sought after solution.
Sensory rooms can be designed and equipped to offer spaces for those with autism, or who need an environment to destress.
WHAT ARE SENSORY ISSUES?
Sensory issues refer to a spectrum of disabilities or conditions that can occur naturally or result from trauma. They can include, but are not limited to:
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS)
ADHD & ADD
Quite simply, people (often children) with sensory issues have difficulty processing information taken in via their senses. Within those people, there is a marked aversion to stimuli that trigger the sense—sound, touch, taste, light, smell. For them, it’s challenging to receive and respond to information from their senses.
